I am extremely proud that my new story is out today in Jewish Fiction.
Benjamin Gold sees himself as the good father rescuing his teenage son from rough kids on the beach. But, feeling the sting of his son’s contempt, Ben is forced to look at himself: how the loss of his Jewish grandmother still haunts him.
A very moving story reflecting on the memory of love and loss. Ben reaches back to old memories and familiar stories to reconnect with his teenage son who is growing up and apart. Difference in cultures and life experiences form barriers to communications ad form regrets. Although set in a Jewish household this could be many middle aged parent and their teenage son. Insightful and gentle.

A powerful story which I found to be quite haunting because of the buried trauma and the sense of loss, not just Bubbe, ‘the most solid thing in the universe’, but also cultural loss, leaving both Ben and Aaron uprooted.
I also liked the grandfather s joy at Aaron s birth, which he thought was ‘the best thing since the infinitesimal approach to calculus’.
